Bring on the Green Building

As a lover of the Earth, and a bit of an architectural junkie, seeing great examples of green building brings incredible warmth to my heart. There is so much potential in construction, and seeing it done well is fantastic. I ran across a few examples in the last few months that I thought would be great to share with you all:

The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University

I ran across this gem in Stone World, and thought it was certainly worth mentioning. A retired limestone quarry was acquired by the university in Greencastle, IN, and plans for construction were made on top of it—using the same materials it sat upon. Using native Indiana limestone was one of the factors taken into consideration when the building was awarded its Gold LEED certification. The best part? It’s a gorgeous building, and a gorgeous site. Of course, we also love the use of stone as well… Be sure to check the article to look at photos.

The Grange Insurance Audobon Center

This one was found on Buildipedia.com, and is a great example of promoting green practices through structural and architectural factors, as well as connecting the public to nature in a way that promotes the understanding of the world around us. The building is situated nearby an urban downtown setting, but uses the area metroparks as a linkage point between man and earth—in conjunction with educational programming. Green structural decisions included passive solar design, on-site stormwater management, and geothermal heat. Again, a building that is both beautiful and eco-friendly.

These are just a few of the many, many green buildings out there worthy of notice. If you are planning a building or home, be sure to check the green options available to you. If you’re doing a smaller home project, this is just as important. Family Matters

Here at The Stone Broker, we understand that family makes up the building blocks of our past, present, and future. This is why we strive to be such a down-to-earth, low key company. We want you to understand that we are people too! As such, it is important to us that we take strides to communicate that we're here for your best interest, not our own.

We also want to give you the opportunity to learn a bit more about the people that make up The Stone Broker. So here is a quick look at us-- being the crazy, whacky bunch we are!

Reid: Reid (as you can see) is a fun-loving guy, and has a beautiful family. To the left, you see him featured as Moses, revealing the way to affordable, quality stone remnants.

Jason: With his pup and girl, he too is a great family guy that wants to offer all he can to The Stone Broker community.

Tara: Your faithful blogger and internet guru, Tara is a gal that is both goofy and caring. Loyal to both her personal and professional families, she hopes to bring positive energy to the team (featured with her loving boyfriend).

Is that... is that the Statue of Liberty??

It would seem that The Stone Broker has indeed made its way to the Big Apple, and we're still going strong-- bringing joyful news of our remnant locating technology everywhere we go!

Have you signed up yet?? Perhaps you should. There are so many reasons to join our system. One of these is of course that it is free to join! We're creating a network-- one that unites distributors, fabricators, contractors, and the everyday homeowner to get the stone moving! So if you have granite remnants, marble remnants, overstock pieces, or any other chunks of stone collecting dust, make sure to utilize the system to locate potential buyers.

New York, Boston, or wherever you happen to be. We are coming. Be forewarned (though not a bit scared). We're likely already there anyway ;)

So where did YOU take us??

It seems we have made our way to Cheers in Boston this month... only appropriate-- we need a few after all the hard work we've done listing, emailing, and spreading the word about our fantastic (and green!) system.

The Stone Broker wants to know where you have taken your favorite natural stone and granite remnant locating service! Sure, we're on the web... but we're on the streets of your hometown as well! In your neighborhood working to find your perfect piece stone at the best price. So where have you taken us??

To answer this question properly there are a few things you can do:

1. Take a look around. Where are you? If you have trouble answering this question, then you too may be in the bar.

2. Grab one of our Bumper Stickers! If you don't have one, that's okay! Shoot us an email, a message, or visit our website and we'll make sure you get one (free of charge of course)! If you had trouble with step 1, you may want to sober up first (for the sake of your computer).

3. Take a photo of you and the bumper sticker, or just the bumper sticker-- you can stick it to a piece of stone, your actual bumper, or hell, you can stick it to your dog (please don't tell PETA). Just snap the photo, send it along, and give us a little story about who YOU are and what you do.

4. We'll post up the photo, along with YOUR info (again, free of charge!) and the world will see that The Stone Broker is everywhere, working to get you exactly what you need.

5. Did I mention you should sign up? Becoming a member on TheStoneBroker.com will increase our network, and is FREE. You'll be able to search for remnants, list remnants, or just hang around for more of Reid's Remnant Ramblings. Whatever you wish. We're here to work for you.

So where have you taken us? We're of course hoping you're taking us to the bar (I mean, who doesn't??)-- but also the office, the conference, the backyard BBQ. Help us tell the world how they can locate their perfect piece of stone for less and have a positive effect on the environment!

By great changes, of course, I mean the addition of a new team member. Namely, the most important team member. That would be me :)

So I may not be the most important, but I do like to consider myself at least a sort-of-key-member of the team. Who am I? I'm your neighborhood writer, Miss Tara D. Sturm. I'm here to let you folks know all the great things going on with Stone Broker.com-- through not only this fabulous blog, but also through our Twitter feeds, our Facebook Group, and a host of other great sites all across the wonderful world of the internet.

We want you to get involved with this excellent system-- it's a chance for you to locate your dream site. A place where you can interact with people that want to give you money. Who doesn't want to meet people that want to hand them cash? If you have stone remnants just laying around, you can sell those bad boys. We provide you a place to do it. Signing up for the site is free. You've got nothing to lose.

If you happen to be looking for stone remnants, this site can be equally as beneficial. Think about it, many projects don't require a whole slab. You're saving money just by buying less than you have to. It's also a great eco-friendly choice to make. Win-win situation over here, kids.
